Tasseography Chart: Cup Zones, Timing and 40 Symbol Meanings

A tasseography chart is the reader's map: it tells you where a symbol sits in the cup, when the event lands, and what the shape itself means. Below is the full chart we use - zones, timing, and a 40-symbol dictionary you can print and keep next to your cup.

1. The zone chart: where the symbol sits

• Rim (top third): the present and the very near future - days to three weeks.
• Middle third: what is already in motion - roughly one to six months.
• Bottom (base): the distant future, deep causes, family and inherited patterns - six months and beyond.
• Handle side: you, your home, the people closest to you.
• Opposite the handle: strangers, travel, work, the outside world.
• Saucer: the outcome, the conclusion, what settles after everything else moves.

2. The timing chart

Read clockwise from the handle. Each quarter turn is roughly a season: the handle is now, a quarter turn is a few weeks, half way around is mid-term, and the return to the handle closes the year. Symbols that touch the rim are urgent; symbols half-drowned in the base are slow.

• Heart - love, a sincere feeling, reconciliation.
• Two hearts - a mutual bond, engagement.
• Ring - commitment, marriage, a contract.
• Broken ring - a promise under strain.
• Face in profile - a person entering your story.
• Two figures - a meeting or a confrontation.
• Cradle - a child, a beginning, something to protect.
• Hand - help offered, or help you must ask for.

Money and work

• Fish - abundance, an unexpected windfall.
• Coin / circle - payment, a raise, a settled debt.
• Key - a door opening; access you did not have.
• Ladder - promotion, step-by-step progress.
• House - property, stability, a move.
• Tree - slow, healthy growth; family roots.
• Bag / sack - resources gathered, savings.
• Scissors - a contract cut, a clean separation.

News, travel and movement

• Bird - news arriving; flying toward the handle means good news.
• Envelope / square - a message, a document.
• Road / line - a journey; a straight line is a clear path.
• Car / wheel - fast movement, a decision taken quickly.
• Boat - travel over distance, emigration.
• Plane - a trip, or a person far away.
• Bridge - a transition; something reconnected.
• Door - an invitation, an opportunity you may refuse.

Warnings and obstacles

• Snake - envy, a hidden rival, gossip.
• Cloud - confusion; wait before deciding.
• Knife - a sharp word, a break.
• Cross - a burden carried, sometimes a sacrifice.
• Chain - an obligation you cannot leave yet.
• Wall - a delay, not a refusal.
• Spider - a web of small commitments.
• Scorpion - a betrayal by someone close.

Fortune and protection

• Star - luck, recognition, a wish granted.
• Moon - intuition, a slow-ripening plan.
• Sun - clarity, health, success in the open.
• Anchor - security, a foundation that holds.
• Crown - honour, a title, being chosen.
• Eye - protection against envy.
• Flower - a gift, a celebration.
• Mountain - a large goal, worth the climb.

4. How to use the chart in order

1. Find the largest, clearest shape first - it is the headline.
2. Locate its zone (rim, middle, base) for timing.
3. Check which side of the handle it sits on for who it concerns.
4. Read the two or three nearest shapes as modifiers, not separate stories.
5. Finish with the saucer - it gives the ending.

5. Chart rules most beginners miss

• Thick, dark grounds intensify a symbol; faint grounds soften it.
• A symbol pointing toward the handle comes to you; away, it leaves you.
• Empty white space is not "nothing" - it is freedom, room to act.
• Never read the same cup twice; the second look invents things.
